Custom Sculpture Pedestal Table

My customer wanted a special and meaningful gift for her parents for Christmas. Previously that year they had lost their beloved pet Schnauzer. She wanted a piece of furniture that would hold their pet’s memory but in a subtle, contemporary piece of furniture that would match the decor of her parent’s home. We decided on a simple pedestal with a custom Schnauzer sculptural element.

I had the challenge of trying to make the representational shapes into a piece that was less literal and more architectural and contemporary. I added elements of geometry with squares in the base and created geometric shapes with the placement of the sculpture’s ears and face. Once it was painted uniformly with metallic pewter, the table took an overall contemporary feel making a beautiful piece of furniture whose personal meaning was subtle and private.
