Montage F.A.Q.

1. What is digital photo montage?

Digital photo montage is a computer technique that softly and naturally combines several photos, images, or elements together into one image.

2. How is this done?

Images (photos, drawings, newspaper articles, pictures from brochures, etc.) or objects (a piece of lace, a favorite toy, a dish, etc.) are simply scanned and turned into an image file on the computer. Then, using a special computer program, they are resized and blended together into one image.

3. Will my actual pictures be altered in anyway?

Scanning is merely a computer copying process. Once they are copied and turned into digital files, they are no longer needed and can be returned intact immediately or with the delivery of the completed montage.

4. How can I get my pictures scanned?

There are two ways:

  1. After you assemble your materials, you can give or send them to me after which I will scan them and return them to you intact.
  2. If you prefer not to part with your actual images you can scan them yourself or have them scanned at Kinkos (or outlet of your choice) and submit them to me on a disc.

5. At what resolution should they be scanned?

I scan at 600 dpi. I recommend to scan at a resolution of at least 360 dpi to 600 dpi if possible.

6. How many images and elements can I use?

I have created montages with as few as 5 images (refer to "Kiki's graduation" to as many as 45 images (refer to "We Love You Jeff") There is no right or wrong number. The important thing is to express or represent your story with whatever you need to express it best. I recommend that you be as selective as possible but I will make whatever you give me work. Most of the montages I have done contain between 12-30 images and have worked out very well. Refer to the Digital Photo Montage Gallery for ideas.

7. How long does it take?

I prefer to have at least two weeks to complete a montage but I can complete one in one week if necessary.

8. How much does it cost?

Refer to the digital photo montage Price Guide.

9. Will it come framed?

Framing options are available at an extra charge. Frame styles will be offered at the initial consultation. Prices vary.

10. How do I begin?

  2. Choose the best quality photos and memorabilia possible to represent the time-frame, person, or event that tells your story best.
  3. Scan or have your imagery scanned. (optional)
